Parents are to attend 3 baptismal classes for the preparation to have their child baptised.  Sponsors (godparents) are not absolutely necessary, but if chosen must be baptised Catholic, have received the sacrament of Confirmation and be a practicing member of a Catholic Parish.  One sponsor is sufficient.  If a second is chosen, that sponsor must be of the opposite sex from the first sponsor.
